Stitch Art for the Earth
Last Wednesday my Friend Alex just sent a
quick email saying that he was exhibiting in an “auction”, he attached the
address and did not provide any other information… So, I decided to have a look
after work. As you probably know this kind of decision can turn in a real disappointment
when you see the only decent work hanged in the wall is your friend´s. However,
it turned into a very interesting exhibition. The whole idea was very good and
I must recognize that it was very well commissioned.
Stitch is an organisation that raises
environmental awareness through the arts. Stitch does this by hosting events
that use art to inspire and engage people with environmental issues. It uses
art as a tool to communicate the importance of a variety of different environmental
issues to a wide audience.
They will use a variety of different
events such as art exhibitions, photography competitions and short film
festivals to appeal to people in different ways. They work on these events with
a range of different collaborators including ethical brands and environmental
charities to further increase their exposure and people's understanding of the
work that they are doing.
Through these events Stitch hopes to
engage people with one of the greatest issues of our time and to bring about
change in a range of areas including ethical consumer choices in food, energy,
and other products, increased recycling, reduced water consumption and more.
There were around 50 works in total and consolidated artists such as Richard Long, Marc Quinn, Audrey Niffengger and Richard Wentworth were mixed
with names that are still fighting for a space in the Art Scene. Alejandro Guijarro with “temple”, David Holland with his “hurt, Agony, Pain, Love-it and
Pride”, Ernesto Canovas with “Landing”, Henry Brundell Bruce with “Mother
Mirror” and more.

El miércoles
pasado, my amigo Alex me mando un email diciendo que exponía en una “subasta”. Adjunto
la dirección sin más detalle que la hora. Así que ni corta ni perezosa me fui
para allá después del trabajo. Como ya sabéis este tipo de decisiones son algo
arriesgadas ya que pueden llegar a ser una gran desilusión cuando ves que la única
obra decente es la de tu amigo. Sin embargo resulto ser una exposición bastante
interesante. La idea es bastante buena y debo reconocer que estaba bastante
bien comisionada.

Stitch es una organización
que quiere concienciar al público mediante iniciativas artísticas como
exhibiciones, concursos fotográficos y pequeños festivales cinematográficos que
ayudan a concienciar al publico de maneras diferentes. Con ellos trabajan
distintos colaboradores, entre ellos organizaciones ecologistas y marcas de
comercio justo, de esta forma promocionan el trabajo que estas organizaciones
realizan.
Expusieron unas
50 obras en total donde artistas consolidados de la talla de Richard Long, Marc Quinn, Audrey Niffengger and Richard Wentworth se mezclaban con artistas que todavía
se quieren abrir espacio en la escena del arte contemporáneo en Londres: AlejandroGuijarro con “temple”, David Holland con “Hurt, Agony, Pain, Love-it and Pride”,
Ernesto Canovas con “Landing”, Henry Brundell Bruce con “Mother Mirror” y
muchos más.
