Se que hace más de un año que no escribo un post, he empezado un pequeño nuevo proyecto que me ha mantenido algo ocupada. Pero hace unos días una amiga topó con este blog y leyó uno de los post. El feedback ha sido muy positivo y de ahí que me lance otra vez a hablar de mi pasión: el arte...
I know, it´s been long time since I published my last post. I have started a little new project that kept me busy. But few days ago a friend found this blog randomly and her feedback has been really good. So, I felt inspired to carry on with "por amor al arte".
Hoy quiero escribir sobre Alejandro Guijarro. Gran fotógrafo, pero sobre todo, gran amigo.
Today, I want to write about Alejandro Guijarro. Great photographer bur, over all, a great friend.
He tenido la suerte de conocer a Alex desde que llegue a Londres en 2001 y he podido ver la evolución tanto de su obra como de su persona y, ambas siguen la misma dirección: Superación constante. Y es que si hay alguien cuidadoso y minucioso con su trabajo, ese es él.
I consider myself very lucky for meeting Alex when I arrived to London in 2001. I could see his evolution since then and I always see the same direction: Constant self improvement. His attention to detail and quality of his work is unique.
Siempre se ha dedicado a la fotografía pero desde su graduación en el Royal College of Arts en Londres su carrera artística ha podido tomar más consistencia. Su primera serie se llama Studies for an Endless City.
He had worked in photography always but he graduated in the Royal College of Arts helped to consolidate him as an artist and gave more consistency to his artistic career. His first series was Studies for an Endless City.
Lo interesante de esta serie para mi es la modificación que Alejandro hace de la perspectiva en la fotografía Lo lejano se puede ver con mas claridad que lo que tenemos justo delante. Caso contrario de la realidad. Obtiene este efecto mediante modificación digital (pixelado) o manual (rayado).
Su segunda serie se llama Broad Daylight. Yo tengo una foto de esta serie, la de aqui abajo. Simplemente me ENCANTA!
In my opinion, the most interesting fact of these series is the modification that Alejandor makes to the perspective in the picture. Where the far is clearer than the closer landscape, contrary to the reality.
He obatains this effect by modifying the picture with digital or manual techniques.
The second work is called Braod Daylight. I actually own this one below, LOVE IT!
Aquí Alex también juega con la modificación de la visión en la foto, donde a primera vista la niebla lo cubre todo. A medida que el espectador contempla la obra el nivel de detalle se empieza a apreciar. La foto sobre estas lineas es Hyde Park. Y la de abajo, La ciudad de los muertos en Cairo.
Alex, also plays and modifies the image. At first sight the fog covers everything. However, the more the public contemplates the picture, the details start appearing in the picture. The image above these lines is Hyde Park and the one below is Cairo.
Y si esto parece interesante. Donde Alex ha conseguido romper con los moldes es con sus famosas Pizarras!
But where Alex managed to break any expectation is with his blackboards!
Ha viajado por el mundo a las mejores universidades de USA y Europa. Ha tomado fotos de las pizarras de las universidades de físicas en Oxford Cambridge, Cern o Stanford.
He travelled around the world to the best Universities in USA and Europe to take pictures from their blackboards. Oxford, Cambridge, Cern, Stanford are some of the names where he took some shoots.
Para mi, lo interesante de esa serie es la sensibilidad que el artista ha tenido para captar la parte artística y estética de una pizarra con una finalidad completamente opuesta como es descubrir nuevos retos de la fisica como por ejemplo: El Bosón de Higgs. Simplemente impresionante.
In my opinion, the most interesting thing in these series is his awareness to capture the artistic and estetic side from a blackboard which has a completely opposite mission: discovering new parameters in physics, the Higgs´ Boson.
Momentum, es el nombre de esta serie que no ha podido ser mas oportuno. Alex está viviendo un gran momento como artista. Sus ediciones son bastante limitadas (5 ediciones de cada foto) y varias de las pizarras se han vendido ya! Hasta Charles Saatchi ha caído rendido comprando ni mas ni menos que 6 de las pizarras. Con un poco de suerte hasta llegamos a verle en una exposición en su famosa galería en Chelsea.
Te deseo lo mejor en esta nueva etapa como artista querido amigo!!
Momentum, is the name of these series that fits perfectly. Alex is enjoying a great moment in his career. His editions are very limited (editions of five) and many of the blackboards are sold out already. Even Charles Saatchi has surrended and bought six of them. My fingers are crossed to see his work hanging in the Saatchi´s Galler very soon.
