Jerónimo Muñiz

Como pequeño homenaje me gustaría dedicar mi primer post a un gran amigo de la familia; Jerónimo Muñiz. Leonés residente durante muchos años en Marruecos, afincado después en Barcelona para finalmente echar raíces en Marbella.

Jero, como todos lo conocemos por aquí, es un pintor costumbrista en sus zocos y paisajes marroquís. Sus bodegones y muñecas también merecen ser destacadas.

Ha sido la primera obra que adquirí de un artista. Teniendo la suerte de visitar su estudio y elegir una pequeña cera de uno de sus maravillosos paisajes. Fue un regalo de mi madre al acabar la carrera y creo que por varias razones merece ser el primer artista de la larga lista que tengo pendiente nombrar.

Aquí cuelgo alguna muestra de su trabajo aunque creo que las fotos no hacen honor a la calidad de la obra.

As small tribute, I would like to dedicate my first post to a very good friend of the family, Jeronimo Muñiz. He was born in Leon and lived for many years in Morocco and Barcelona to finally settle down in Marbella.

Jero, as everybody knows him in the neighbourhood, is a Costumbrist* painter in his souks and Moroccan landscapes. This was the first work that I acquired from an artist.

I was very lucky having the opportunity to visit his studio and pick one of his amazing landscapes made with colour wax. It was a present from my mother when I finished university and therefore I think he deserves to be the first one from the long list that I have pending to mention here.

Attached is a sample is his work. Although, I think these pictures do not reflect the quality and the details as it should do. 

(*) Costumbrist refers to the literary or pictorial interpretation of local everyday life, mannerisms, and customs, primarily in the Hispanic scene, and particularly in the 19th century. Costumbrismo is related both to artistic Realism and to Romanticism, sharing the Romantic interest in expression as against simple representation and the romantic and realist focus on precise representation of particular times and places, rather than of humanity in the abstract.It is often satiric and even moralizing, but unlike proper realism does not usually offer or even imply any particular analysis of the society it depicts. When not satiric, its approach to quaint folkloric detail often has a romanticizing aspect.

Introduccion/ introduction

Después de darle muchas vueltas e inspirada por iniciativas anteriores de amigas he decidido que voy a empezar un blog… y un blog sobre ¿qué?... Sobre algo que me apasione, algo que me haga tener fuerza de voluntad para escribir (en dos idiomas) algo relevante y con significado con una frecuencia más o menos consistente. ¡El Arte!

La idea de este blog simplemente es poner en orden mi pequeño conocimiento de este mundo que es el arte contemporáneo y compartir mis opiniones con quien tenga algo de interés por este tema, sin pretensión alguna, solo por amor al arte.

After thinking about it too many times and inspired by some of my best friends, I decided to start my own blog... next question is, a blog, about what? It has to be something that I am passionate about, something that gives me the willpower to write (in two different languages) something relevant and meaningful and frequently enough to make it consistent. Art!

The idea of this blog is to organise my knowledge about this huge industry which is the contemporary art, share thoughts and opinions with anyone who has any interest about the subject, without any pretensions, “just por amor al arte”.
